Cécilia Meneau is a multidisciplinary French artist. Her work is distinguished by a dynamic and highly individual style, shaped by her lifelong commitment to nonconformity and creative independence.
Cécilia has always been obsessed with all things delightfully offbeat, whether in visual arts, music, or fashion. As a teenage punk tearing through underground scenes, she crafted one-of-a-kind sculptural, statement jewelry pieces, an aesthetic she now brings to her one-of-a-kind mosaics.
After graduating with honors in Economics, and armed with a degree in Art and Communication from La Sorbonne - Paris, Cécilia plunged headfirst into the garage and punk rock underworld. She booked tours for many recognized acts, promoted shows throughout France and Europe, and co-owned a record label. She has performed all around the globe in several bands as a singer, keyboardist, and drummer, contributing to a music movement birthed out of genuine, pre-digital subculture.
Fueled by her ongoing artistic curiosity and DIY all-or-nothing approach, Cécilia has always been eager to dive into new and exciting forms of self-expression. Thus, when the pandemic lockdown began, she took it as an opportunity to devote her days to a medium she had always cherished: mosaic art. She quickly found her distinctive voice and method, transforming shards of ceramic and porcelain tiles into intricate works of art via an intensely laborious process of nipping and sculpting. True to form, she does it all by hand - no power tools, no shortcuts, just patience, precision, and pure obsession.
Driven by her relentless urge to decorate and transform, “mosaicking” everything inside and outside her house was naturally the next step in the evolution of her uniquely personal vision (see MY HOUSE).
With a love for mid-century design, her work reflects a strong affinity for rock and roll, exotica, pin-up glamour, beatnik vibes, pop culture, and, of course, cats. She also collaborates with fellow artists to create eye-catching mosaic masterpieces.
Cécilia currently lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband and their adorable fluffy tuxedo cat, Manray.
